In our 2 Peter series, we now look at ‘Everything we need’ (1:3-7). We learn that it is Christ’s infinite beauty that draws us deeper into God’s triune life, that Jesus is with us in this world, and that gospelized virtue will sustain our practise of godliness. Everything we need for this week: A fruitful and godly life is demonstrated by gospelized virtues that reinforce our knowledge and experience of Jesus Christ.

We kick off our new preaching calendar by looking at ‘Everything we need.’ 2 Peter 1:1-2 reminds us of our new identity and role, that our mission is worth it, and we are righted by knowing the triune God. Everything we need for this week: What concrete steps are you taking this fall to grow in the knowledge of Jesus as Lord?

We conclude our summer series by looking at two parables on costly discipleship (Luke 14). We learn that failing to plan is planning to fail, we need to be all in, and disciples both preserve and catalyze God’s kingdom work. ‘Many things in parables’: Jesus calls us to be his life-and-death witnesses, and to put him first above all other priorities and concerns

Summary: This week we look at the parable of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16). We are challenged on neglect and hoarding, to not make Mammon our god, and to embrace the sufficiency of scripture. ‘Many things in parables’: Jesus tells us that a changed heart has the capacity and willingness to see and respond to needy people.
