The FOCUS on AFRICA Cookbook features paintings by Winnipeg artist Ray Dirks
- Ray Dirks worked in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo as an illustrator
for two years in the 1980's. Since leaving Kinshasa in 1985, he has worked in
approximately 30 other countries around the world, including more than a dozen in
Africa. In 2002, as a result of his work in Africa, he was invited to be the first
artist-in-residence at the Overseas Ministry Study Center and a Research Fellow at
Yale University, both in New Haven, Connecticut. He has been the director of the
Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba since 1998. Inquiries
